Adding Dictionaries to ZDic
ZDic understands most of the dictionaries that are compatible with StarDict (an opensource dictionary for Linux). To obtain new dictionaries, please visit here, select the category and download the dictionary you want. You may also Google for “stardict dictionaries”.
This is a step-by-step guide for importing dictionaries into ZDic.
0.Download the tools needed for extracting and importing dictionaries. Most dictionaries come in .tar.bz2 format and applications like WinRar or 7-zip are needed to extract such packages. HTTP File Server (HFS) is also needed to set up a dictionary server. You can download 7z here and HFS here.
1.Download a dictionary package from the internet. Extract it to get three files (an .ifo, an .idx and a .dict.dz file)
2. Rename the file with “.dict.dz” extension to “.dict.gz”. E.g. rename “ dict_www.dict.org_wn.dict.dz” to “ dict_www.dict.org_wn.dict.gz”
3. Extract the file renamed in step 2 with WinRar/Winzip/7z/Any other unarchiver. A new file with “.dict” extension is produced. Please ensure all three files needed (idx, ifo and dict have exactly the same filename)
4.Open HTTP File Server (HFS), drag and drop those three files obtained in step 3 into HFS
5. In ZDic, use the “i” button at the lower right corner and choose “Download a Dictionary”.
6.Type in the server address obtained in HFS and tap “Go”
7. Select a dictionary to download.
8.Wait for the download to finish and done!
