Adding Dictionaries to ZDic
ZDic understands most of the dictionaries that are compatible with StarDict (an opensource dictionary for Linux). To obtain new dictionaries, please visit here, select the category and download the dictionary you want. You may also Google for “stardict dictionaries”.
This is a step-by-step guide for importing dictionaries into ZDic.
1.Download a dictionary package, extract it to get three files (an .ifo, an .idx and a .dict.dz file)
2.Rename the file with “.dict.dz” extension to “.dict.gz”. E.g. rename “dict_www.dict.org_wn.dict.dz” to “ dict_www.dict.org_wn.dict.gz”
3.Extract the file renamed in step 2 by double clicking on it. A new file with “.dict” extension is produced.
4.In your HOME folder, go to “Sites” and create a new directory called “Dictionaries”.
5.Drop those three files needed by ZDic, namely “.ifo”, “.idx” and “.dict” files, into the “Dictionaries” folder.
6.Go to “System Preferences”->”Sharing”, enable “Web Sharing”
7.Find out your Mac’s IP address in “System Preferences”->”Network”. In my case it’s “10.0.1.200”
8.In ZDic, use the “i” button at the lower right corner and choose “Download a Dictionary”.
9.Enter the Server Address and press Go. The Server Address is your Mac’s IP address followed by “/~username/Dictionaries”. In my case, the IP address is “10.0.1.200”, my username is “Steven” and the server address is “10.0.1.200/~steven/Dictionaries”.
10.Select the dictionary you want to download.
11.Wait for the download to finish and done!
