What is BookZ?
BookZ is a text(book) reader for iPhone. It is available in the iTunes AppStore.
Where can I post feedback, ask for support, etc.?

What formats does BookZ support? Is there any way to see some screenshots? Also the link from itunes points to a 404.

BookZ supports TXT at the moment.
Thank you for pointing out the dead link. It has been fixed.
More screenshots coming in the next post : )

Cheers. Thanks for your quick upload of additional images.
If you could do .prc support (unencrypted of course), that would be great. Good luck with the app. Coming over from Symbian OS (as I’m sure a lot of others might be) mobipocket reader is considered one of the best readers for these phones with a desktop client etc. I know the limitations of the iphone prohibit to a certain extent linkage with a desktop client other than itunes, but as your app supports download of txt files then one could upload .prc files somewhere in a similar way. Can it read inside zip files?

Hi Borg,
PDB is the proposed format to be supported. (I haven’t looked at .prc yet)
I’ve come up with ways to decompress gzip, tar, bz2 formats, and I’m still having trouble with .zip files. Once I figure out out to read .zip files without decompressing, I’ll add it to BookZ : )
When it comes to iPhone, it’s a bit hard to set up softwares. I’m working hard on the usability at the moment and hope to bring an iPhone-style user experience for readers — simple and elegant.

Hi Steve!
Basically I want to thank you for making an amazing piece of software available for my iPod. It’s quickly become my favorite app, and unlike a lot of the other programs I have tested the past few days it doesn’t feel like beta software. It crashes occasionally on launch but I understand this is caused by the long file names I have given my books.
I have two feature requests for future updates if you’d be willing to lend an ear.
- Support for folders. The library quickly gets crowded and folders would make it easier to find the book I’m looking for. I miss the ability to add author names to my books and this could be a good way to solve that as well.
- The ability to add at least one custom bookmark in the browser. I use my googlepage to upload books to my iPod, and typing the same url again and again gets old quickly.
Either way I’m enjoying BookZ a lot.
Regards
Ingrid

Hi Ingrid,
Thank you very much for choosing BookZ! I’m very delighted to hear your helpful suggestions : )
I’ve added “Implement categories” to my ToDo list. BookZ 1.0.0 supports batch importing locally, and it needs to be able to unzip files before this feature really works.
As to Browser Bookmarks, it’s been implemented already in my development version.
The update under development is going to be an important update with lots of new features, thanks to warm-hearted supporters like you!
It will be available in the second update to BookZ (the first is about bug fixes) : D
I’m very glad you like BookZ! Thanks to your advice, BookZ is getting better and better.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi steve,
Thank you for an excellent application that gives me more opportunities than ereader.
however i’d also like to have the ability to have bookmarks in the browser and folders to store the books in.
I’m having trouble with a download site: box.net that has an iphone version: i.box.net. Bookz doesn’t recognise the text files as being text files, i just end up with the entire book on the screen in web page format. when i go to the site in safari or opera, it presents me with a save as dialogue instead.
i’m looking forward to the next release
cheers, Brian

Hi;
Updated BookZ to 1.02 just now; it no longer works.
On launch it displays the icon/scroll for a moment, then drops back to Home.
I’m in the middle of a book and would like to finish, any suggestions?
As well, I tried to leave a review on iTunes but can’t find BookZ listed anymore, am I just missing somewhere obvious?

To Jennifer:
If you want to transfer txt files from your computer to BookZ, you can follow the step-by-step guide in “Getting Started”.
Alternative, you can upload your text files to your own blog, GooglePages or any other web service and use BookZ to download files directly from the websites.
